Big Kids Family Music® is a new 60 minute class geared to the interests and social nature of children ages 5 and 6.
Just as in our mixed-age classes, parents still play an important role in this class, but the adults and children will often have different musical roles.
Parents and caregivers will continue to learn how to support their child musically as he or she develops interests and skills in singing, playing instruments, taking dramatic roles, improvising and dancing.
We'll enjoy game songs, folk dances, jam sessions, dramatic play and more structured work in rhythm and tonality.
Children will be encouraged to offer ideas and share their skills with the group, but the class will remain participation oriented, not performance oriented.
Teacher Julia McLeod is excited to begin working with older children, believing that Big Kids Family Music is the perfect 'next step' after Music Together®®'s mixed age classes. Awarded Certification Level II for mastery of teaching the Music Together curriculum, Julia has been teaching the program for six years.
Julia believes that being musically competent is a life skill, a social skill just as important as swimming or speaking correctly. These early years are when our children best learn how to carry a tune and keep a steady beat. Give your child this beautiful gift of music!
To attend the Big Kids Family Music class, your child must be 5 years of age by the start of the semester. There will be FREE child care available during this class for younger siblings. Infants under 8 months may stay in class with their parents.
